Karin Platt of Nederland, Colorado started  her crafty business three years ago as a way to justify a collection gone wild. A self-professed “garage sale freak” she started making old record album covers, books and game boards into purses and she hasn’t looked back – except for more artwork from years gone by!

The tote bags Karin creates are handcrafted from gen-u-ine album covers. Karin reinforces the cover’s insides with plastic, stitches the tote’s body together, uses old men’s neckties for the handles and then hand coats the bag inside and outside.

Obviously Karin’s Kitsch gets high marks for the nostalgic “ah-ha” moment when you see one of your favorites from days gone by, but you can also buy her goods guilt free. . since she’s big into recycling too, she takes only those albums (and books and game boards) that are too old and worn for display to use for her purses

Very kute, Karin. . . and klever too!
